Campaign Update!

Dear Friends,

As some of you may know, I am currently running a Kickstarter campaign to fund my short story collection “The Runaway Princess and Other Stories”. The campaign is at 34% funded of the $10,000 goal with 8 days to go. Will you consider making a pledge? There are various tiers with goodies such as copies of the book, bookmarks, mugs, and book bags, as well as add-ons such as hoodies and sweatshirts featuring characters.

In this month’s newsletter, I talked about how this project is a culmination of the last two years of learning about so many amazing girls and women in African mythology and folklore and not wanting their stories to be lost. Additionally, my storytelling approach focuses on their inner worlds, so what they are thinking and feeling as the events of their lives unfold…which can be challenging because interiority, that is, heightened awareness of and reflection on thoughts and feelings, doesn’t really exist in traditional folktales. I also include high-quality art from a variety of talented  illustrators from the African continent and with your pledges, I will be able to pay for editing and sensitivity reading to make sure the diverse cultures are accurately represented.
