It, really, is gonna be May...
And wow… it’s hard to believe how fast time is moving but we’re keeping up…right?
I think we are.
I spent April mostly away from social media so I could work on completing projects but there were still a few exciting new developments and high points:
I had the pleasure of spending time with the lovely Ada McCartney on the Femme On podcast. We talked about poetry and what is animating our lives this year. We also talked about the inspirations and process behind my book “The Runaway Princess and Other Stories.” You can listen to our conversation here.
It was also such a pleasure to join a panel organized by the AMLA Network and the Institute of African Studies at Emory University to talk about Mythological Africans and hear about the amazing work being done by Aidah Nalubowa of The African Theatre Magazine. A link to a recording of the conversation will be available soon!
If you’ve not been keeping up, we are 8 episodes deep into the Mythological Africans Podcast which features live recordings of the Mythological Africans Friday Twitter Storytelling sessions. We’ve revisited some of my favorite discussions so far. New episodes will drop every Sunday. You can listen on Apple and Spotify.
Just today, I got to spend time with the lovely folks over at Romancing the Gothic. We talked about archetypical depictions of women in African folklore. Watch the talk here.
While my social media break will continue until I have deadlines under control, here are a few things to look forward to:
Episode 14 of the Mythological Africans Deep Dives Series which will focus on Lesbianism in the African context. This is part of our exploration of African sexualities.
More MA Podcast episodes.
More updates about “The Runaway Princess and Other Stories”. Keep an eye on the project page. By the way, did you know you can now listen to Asáŋasáŋa Idim, the Ibibio version of “The Sacred Spring” ? Go check it out here.
Thank you as always for your support!
